Art Déco rapidly spread internationally. In New York it became the fashionable style for new skyscrapers such as the Chrysler Building. In Germany, the Bauhaus school pioneered Modernist design: everything from typeface to doorknobs to skyscrapers was re-imagined. Berlin also developed innovative social housing.
