Fall 2018 will mark the second anniversary of Leonard Cohen’s death. This Canadian singer/songwriter has earned the devotion of innumerable fans around the world. His lyrics are rich with a significance that touches people deeply. This presentation will look at Cohen’s ability to illuminate a wide range of human emotion and experience. The talk will scan Cohen’s personal background and then take a closer look at the lyrics and the sources of inspiration he used to illuminate our interior lives.
Walter Knox, a retired English literature department head, combined his extensive educational experiences with a keen interest in Cohen’s poetic talents. This led to a deeper understanding of the recurrent themes, the refreshing use of language, the spiritual foundations, and the surprising illumination of our interior lives found in the song writer’s recorded works.
